"Anticipation" refers both to the feelings and to some degree anxiety I felt about impending fatherhood and also the word as a musical term. The tune is built around a three-part counterpoint in the guitar with each resulting chord anticipating the beginning and middle of each measure which ends up making for a somewhat relentless and perpetual motion throughout the song. I started with the counterpoint and then gave all of the chords more conventional names according to what they seemed to best describe. The melody develops a simple idea and rhythmically plays between the on-beats and off-beats, sometimes anticipating the anticipations. The tenor is in unison with the trumpet throughout which ends up extending well beyond the traditional "top" of the tenor, but there is a power in the unison that I think fits the tune.
